Independence is defined as a performance situation that is structured in such a way that the success of any one member is unrelated to the chance of other members’ succeeding. Independence also means expressing opinions, making judgments, or acting in ways that are consistent with one’s personal beliefs but inconsistent with the opinions, judgments, or actions of other group members or the group’s norms.
